Blue with Little White Stars

Blue with Little White Stars is the story of a little girl’s limitless imagination as she discovers the secrets of her aunt’s blue hijab (veil) with little white stars. We join her on an exciting journey of discovery. She wraps the veil around her waist and transforms into a beautiful princes; she lays the veil on the floor where she magically converts its folds into big waves that carry her ship; she looks at the veil through a paper telescope to explore the sparkling beauty of the night sky ... . Her imagination eventually leads us to the final destination.

Author Saba Hakim tackles a controversial adult topic – the Muslim head covering – and presents it to young audiences through the apolitical eyes of a child.

The illustrations are equally inspiring bringing together the intricate artistry of Australia’s own Anna Cordingly together with the colourful imaginative work of the Iranian artist Rafat Hashemi Sisakht .

Here is what Islamic nasheed singer and writer Zain Bhikha had to say about BLUE with Little White Stars:

I found it really well done Masha-Allah and we should all use our creative talents to spread the message of peace and use these tools as a means of education and inspiration. I found the illustrations great, the words and story age-appropriate and I know my children will enjoy it. So, well done and please continue. May Allah grant you all the success, Insha-Allah.
